Cover Crop Disaster: The Solution
When it FINALLY stopped raining, we were quick to get back in the field and beginning tackling our monster of a problem… planting corn and soybeans though insanely thick, tangled, dead cover crop.
In Cover Crop Disaster (https://youtu.be/TTBil0ugYDY), we showed the painful process of finding every way NOT to plant through cover crop. Through trial and error, we finally identified the planter setup that would give us our best chance of getting a crop planted this year:
John Deere 1770 NT Planter with:
retrofitted Martin No-Till row cleaners
no-till coulters
Prescription Tillage Technology STP Disc Openers
Copperhead and Schaffert Manufacturing closing wheels
Precision Planting vDrives and DeltaForce
In this video, we show how the set up worked for planting corn on June 13 and soybeans on July 4. We also include follow-ups so you can see the stand and how things are going so far this summer.
