Harvesting Corn Planted into Green Cover Crop

Is planting corn into cereal rye a mistake? In 2024, we completed another experiment on 15 acres of pure cereal rye. Prior to planting, we grazed our cow herd on the cover crop (they ate it down to nothing) and we fed round bales in areas prone to erosion (only when the ground was completely frozen). In early April, we planted into the green cover, roller crimped it down, and held our breath as the corn emerged. In late April, we streamed about 50 gallons of 28-0-0-5 with humic acid.

Today, we are evaluating the results of planting corn into mature cereal rye and whether or not our efforts to prevent erosion were successful through the wettest spring we've ever had!
